SchoolBox is a modular, solar-powered classroom system redefining access to education in Nigeria’s most underserved and displaced communities. Developed by The Offshore Lab (TOL), it addresses the urgent challenge of out-of-school children, especially in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and insecurity-prone regions.
Each SchoolBox is a recycled shipping container transformed into a safe, self-sufficient classroom, ICT lab, or WASH facility. Designed for mobility and rapid deployment within a 28-day build cycle, SchoolBox ensures continuity in learning wherever traditional infrastructure fails.
Core Features:
• Solar-powered and independent of unreliable grids
• Mobile and relocatable to follow displaced populations
• Dignified, ventilated, and child-friendly learning environment
• Fast, scalable intervention for emergency education
Variants:
• Classroom Box – teaching boards, seating, solar lighting
• Science Box – equipped physics, chemistry, or biology lab
• ICT Box – internet-ready digital learning suite
Target Uses: IDP camps, rural schools, STEM labs, and reintegration zones.
